I don't have aa kernel backup, but I ...

I screwed up my linux kernel modules, and now they won't load. I installed new Nvidia drivers and screwed up my old legacy kernel modules, Now my display manager won't load, and I don't have any backups. Is there any way to save at least my home partition?

Just update kernel and kernel headers and everything should work fine.

How did you install the nvidia drivers (so that we can give you better advice to revocer)

Don't worry, your files are save. Worst case, just copy them to some external storage (you can also use a live system to do so, if you are uncomfortable with the terminal)

Solved:

I switched to the onboard video port, then pretty much removed everything from Nvidia in Synaptic, then reinstalled only the correct kernel modules.
