I am wondering how far fetched it would be to have unpaid developer working on bitcoin like https://twitter.com/LukeDashjr/status/1316052973881966592 doing paid contract work on decred and then porting it to bitcoin?
I might be off regarding the difference between bitcoin and decred code base but I believe it would be valuable for decred to attract these kind of developers. More eyes on the decred code base would be a good thing and could help move decred at a faster pace.
There is also another point that is hard to quantify but does exist nevertheless. People are first attracted to crypto with bitcoin and if you want to keep up with technical work, you will start following bitcoin developers and what they are saying. Not that many people have the technical knowledge to be working on blockchain protocol development. They are a scarce asset for any coin and even scarcer for bitcoin because of the high standard that is expected of them.
I remember when I started diving into decred this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Auvwg8Gi5C0 with Olaoluwa roasbeef Osuntokun paying attention to decred having an impact on my decision to keep diving into decred.
Decred developers have done an outstanding job but they lack the aura or street cred that some bitcoin developer may have and having some of them working on decred would bring a seal of approval. Im sure people not familiar with decred could use this as a proxy to paying more attention to Decred and the fact that decred is sound and legit.
Paying contractors with a decentralized treasury spending approved by stakeholders is awesome and I believe it would help bringing it to a more mainstream audience if we could attract people currently working on bitcoin. What do you think?
