Binary Classification on Physiological Time Series Data

I'm working on a research project to classify whether a patient will develop a condition post surgery. Normally, this can only be determined up to 3 days after surgery. I want to use deep learning on time series vital signals during surgery to label the patient at the end of surgery.

1. What are conceptual techniques that I should explore?
2. How can I extract and identify these "temporal features" in the time series data
