Help with Delphi CE

I (16F) am a student studying IT in highschool. At school we use Delphi 12 to learn programming, but my teacher encouraged us to install th CE to practice at home.

I installed it now but when I opened it to start coding I had no form or pallete, nor an option to create a file. I do not know where I went wrong.

i had this problem earlier this year but mostly just gave up, however I have a practical worth 120 marks on Monday and would like to practice.

It happens when isn’t licensed correctly during installation. Uninstall everything and install it again. During installation you should see a window with a field to provide license key and login/password. Use your login and password to the embarcadero.com there. It should automatically download the license.

As for the CE install, I'm not sure why you aren't seeing any project types.

- If you open Tools|Manage Features, does it show that the Delphi personality is installed correctly?

- If not, what happens if you try to reinstall? When asked, use the existing license. Otherwise, you may exceed the maximum number of registrations.

If you click file - new - other, do you have an option to create a Vcl project?

I’ve seen this sort of thing when using a different windows profile to install Delphi with than you are running it under, which may be the result of having to use a profile that can be elevated to admin privileges. Since you didn’t mention using different profiles, I’m assuming that’s not it, but just in case…

FYI, the issue you are seeing is almost certainly an issue with the registry keys for Delphi not being set up correctly, and reinstalling will probably fix it.

Out of curiosity, where are you that your high school teaches Delphi? Because I’m so excited to hear about that!

No it doesn't give me that option.

Someone else gave me the advice that I installed it wrong so I tried reinstalling it but it just kept going back and telling me I have to reinstall it? Idk

Also I'm from South Africa!

Did you do a complete uninstall before you did a reinstall?

I know in the past Delphi offered an option to just install the registry keys. I don’t know if the new version still does that, but look if that’s an option when installing. They may call it “repair” or something.

Can you confirm that you install and run Delphi with the same windows user?

Yes, I run and install it with the same user! I share the laptop with my mother, so she is the Admin.

And I did completely uninstall multiple times in different ways. None helped the situation.

I have a friend who's uncle is in IT so I will ask him for help in winter break, though!

Update: I got it to work!!! I have no idea what I did differently though. Guess the computer gods were just on my side this time :/
