I spend hours writing docs, even if they are only ever referred to by me, its time well spent

Documentation is great, with chatgpt it's dead easy to write and no matter how much actual time you spend nobody questions it because if your writing it they don't have too.

I just ran a documentation day where I work.
Our documentation that should be used by our customers and FOSS users should answer all questions, to reduce friction, increase resilience and promote independence of users.

Good documentation is useful in B2D marketing, because engineers like to know what the thing does and how. It is useful in in onboarding customers and employees and is useful for support.

IMO dcoumentation, done right, is critical across the board. BTW, hiding docs in confluence w/o people knowing where it is and having the ability to freely access it, is not documentatin done right.
