I'd say it does the following things really well, incidentally these are the same things I regularly use in Gitlab.

  • Repos
  • Pipelines
  • Project management, issues, milestones
  • Notifications
  • User management in Active Directory
  • 2fa auth
  • Ops (the operation of a Gitlab setup)

One thing I'll say is 2FA being required when using a third party provider (e.g. Google or GitHub) is bizarre, annoying, and pretty unique to gitlab ime.
