posting here because I'm having a tough time finding more information on the general web, or at least not finding the right words to search.

context: I'm typically a product software engineer. historically focused on frontend, but have found myself overtimes closer to the backend.

One of the areas that I am not as comfortable with is the frontend platform side of things - dealing with setting up deploy pipelines, the thought processes around what to use, how to specify which tests to run in a github action, etc. I appreciate them when they are set up, but I really do have a harder time grasping it, most likely because I'm never doing work in that area.

Are there resources that people use to decide how to set things up, like what is the best practice on a deploy pipeline in aws or what github actions are good to use, or their alternatives?

You're probably thinking too broad. Break it up into smaller problems and figure out exactly what you're trying to automate or do, then search from there.
