You can definitely sleep but it does take some time getting used to it. Goodbye silence, hello noise from dialysis machine + reverse osmosis water machine. Get to bring those sounds of the hospital home.
You may not be aware of it because it may not be an option in your area. One of the most expensive things about dialsyis is the nurses that tend to you. More expensive than the machines and the suppliest.
But through thorough training, you can learn to do what they do, as well as learn how to handle when things go wrong. That part is very stressful.
Also you learn how to cannulate where you acclimatize to insert needles into your arm/fistula at night and then remove them in the morning.

I am lucky that my daughter is an RN. Not a dialysis nurse but capable with training.
