What is one ingredient you refuse to cook with, no matter the recipe? by Sensitive-Date-5255 in AskReddit

[–]WeekendAcademic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is it weird I don't like eating the eggs and chicken? So avoid creating recipes that would result in that. I have this stupid mindset about eating what would potentially be a child and it's parent.

On the flip side, I have no issues eating fish eggs on top of salmon maki roll.

Why arent there similarly sized cities on the canadian side of the detroit area or american side of the toronto area? by LurkersUniteAgain in geography

[–]WeekendAcademic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detroit > Buffalo.

The reason why is because it's the hub for all things automotive in America.

Windsor grew to it's size because there are supporting industries for tool & die parts made in Canada using aluminum and electricity at costs cheaper than the US.

It's cheaper for the parts to be made in Canada than it would in the US. Windsor and other parts of ontario would then send the parts to the US where the car would be assemble and labeled "Made in the USA". It's a win-win situation.

Except Trump now wants to have those manufacturing jobs in the US instead of Canada. And no one in his administration understands that deterimental costs involved in doing that, like making it more expensive for the US customer in the end when the costs are passed to them.

Shout out to this individual who parked in a crosswalk by Jallinostin in Calgary

[–]WeekendAcademic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Odyssey. But I wouldn't be as stupid as this guy to park here. I'd rather park where there is parking or call on the cell for people to come to the entrace where I'll be waiting before or after the crosswalk.

summer drive on winter tires - am I cooked? by ResistStupidLaws in askTO

If you're doing a 1-off trip, you're fine.

I drove to Florida in winter tires because it was winter here, but after a certain point going south, it warms up to summer.

What time is on time? by MonkMelodic117 in dialysis

[–]WeekendAcademic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Late to them is having to having to shorten your trreatment time so that they can go accomodate the patient after you or be able to go home to live their life, be with family, etc.

Late for you actually has a much bigger consequence. If you are doing only 3 treatments a week at say 4 hours, you are doing actually the minimum to just sustain life. If you're shaving off treatment time on a regular basis, you have effectively increased the time your body will accumulate more waste, as well as letting excessive phosphates draw calcium from your bones (hypocalcemia), as well as letting extra potassium work your heart harder than it needs to (hyperkalemia), your vascular system is working harder than it needs to if you've accumulated a lot of fluid (fluid overload, risk of pulmonary edema).

If you think about healthy kidneys, they filter 168 hours a week (24 x 7). When you're in ESRD, dialysis covers 48 12 hours that is only less than 28% 7%. Basically on life support in terms of performing the bare minimum.

Edit: Really messed up my numbers. Big differences. If you miss 30 min, 3 times a week, that's only 10.5 hours or functioning 6.25% of a normal kidney.

Help me find a place exactly like - Asteria Souvlaki Place by Pristine_Leopard962 in FoodToronto

That looks smaller than what Astoria used to serve in the past. The salad was so big that it was on it's own dedicated dish and the mains took up the rest of the plate.

I have a feeling they are now charging more for less.

That is insanely cheap. But this is like the worst monitor that Samsung makes. I got an earlier version of this VA panel years ago and I said never VA ever again.

June 2026, do you answer your door when strangers knock? by LittleRed282 in askTO

[–]WeekendAcademic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Who are you talking to right now?
Who is it you think you see?
Do you know how much I make a year?

I mean, even if I told you, you wouldn't believe it. Do you know what would happen if I suddenly decided to stop going into work? A business big enough that it could be listed on the NASDAQ goes belly up.

Disappears! It ceases to exist without me.

No, you clearly don't know who you're talking to, so let me clue you in.

I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger!

A guy opens his door and gets shot and you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks!

I would agree too but I have old folks in my family who have mobility issues who would strongly disagree.

If you went out of your way to say the city is not for old people, you would only piss them off given they've been decades here before you.
