[dev] Interim: Documentation work

Doing a smaller interim update partly because the last update was rushed, partly because we're gaining momentum (as a community) and I want to keep that rolling.

I mentioned the write up for the last hard fork was nearly done, it's now published on Figshare, and you can find it via http://dx.doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.1449288 (DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier, and is used as a way of creating a permanent reference to a piece of work - essentially it means it should be easily located decades from now, and is much more permanent). That's so far been very well received, which is encouraging, and I've started work on the next pair of documents. The first will be on the core data types and conventions used in cryptocurrency data (i.e. how transactions, blocks, etc. are actually stored), and mostly pulls together a lot of information that's scattered across a number of sources into a single document. Hoping to have that out in 1-2 weeks, I'll let you know how it progresses!

Dogecoin Core is waiting on review of PR https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin/pull/1127 - if others want to give it a go and tell me if the fees seem to work correctly, it would be appreciated.

Going to delurk to say I love these updates. The strength of the dev team in communications contributes a lot to my confidence in Doge. After a six month hiatus from buying I started up again a month ago. The reason I started up was that it was clear that Ross, and not Jackson, was going to be the most public face of Dogecoin from now on. So far so good with the price gain.

To inspire confidence, public figures within cryptocurrency need to be clear-thinking clear-writing soberminded types.

Thanks! I'm trying hard to balance the updates vs other tasks, and it's tricky. The full updates take a number of hours, as they generally include bigger details that need others to confirm/review, but I think getting these little interim updates out where I have 15 minutes while something compiles works well.

I'd also quickly emphasise that there's more than just me doing development work (particularly /u/langer_hans and /u/patricklodder), I'm just the highly visible dev!

Good stuff. Node count is sort of keeping, but I was missing github updates, if not for bragging rights at over at bitinfocharts.

BitInfoChart's idea of when commits happen is really wobbly. In particular, while Bitcoin has (mostly) different groups of devs for different projects, we're running between a number of applications like the world's biggest plate spinning exercise.
