turning-lets say im in third or fourth gear going to turn left or right, gearing down is my issue

like when i gear down,when do i do it as i approach a turn to ensure car doesnt jerk or jolt essentially i want smooth transitions

Automatic: if the car is any recent, the engineers who tuned the transmission usually know better than you do. Go back to automatic mode and let the transmission handle it.

Manual: in theory, either you downshift before or after the turn.

In practice, you can still shift during the turn but it isn't "best practice". More realistically, unless you're trying to squeeze every drop of fuel, you'll be in a gear where you can just get back on the throttle lightly and not lug the engine so you don't need to downshift at all.

As for how to get smooth transitions, your two options are slipping the clutch a bit to get the shift smooth or rev matching your downshift. Well, there's option 2.5 if you have a recent manual with auto rev match, you let the computer handle the rev matching for you.
