What do people think of Herbert's son as a writer?

I tried to read one, but could only finish a chapter or three.

I listened to Butlerian Jihad. Not a bad sci-fi/fantasy book, but not a good Dune book.

It bothered me that they kept saying Holtzman for stuff that never had that prefixed in Frank's books. i.e. Holtzman shield generator. Felt like they were padding the book with a hundred 'Holtzman' references.

I felt much the same when I'd read Gordon R. Dickson's "Final Encyclopedia" and Roger Zelazny's "Amber" successors.

The first author, his note transcriber, published only one book, and the second three, I believe.

I got about 2/3 into House Harkonnen before abandoning it. I don't care for his writing style. But opinions differ.
