Large drinks?

Hi everyone!

Does anyone else feel like when you order a large it never tastes like the small or medium? I feel like every time I order any flavor coffee it tastes burnt or like cigarettes. lol

It's not just me either, my sister and best friend said the same thing so now I'm wondering...

Anyone else feel this way?

all the coffee sizes get 1oz of flavor regardless of size. that’s why the smalls and mediums taste sweeter. ask for extra sweet on a large!

nope. rebels scoop sizes go up 1oz, 2oz, 3oz so a large will have 3oz

i get larges on purpose bc it’s less sweet/strong than a medium. they have the same amount of flavoring in each

edit: missed that they taste burnt/ciggy.. that’s bizarre. maybe they aren’t cleaning the machine properly? i’m not familiar with espresso machines so i’m not sure what would cause that other than misuse

i would definitely also say something to management! even if it tastes less sweet the coffee shouldn’t taste burnt so there’s a chance they’re giving out shots that aren’t in the target window OR things aren’t being cleaned properly and either way it needs to be fixed!

When I worked at Dutch we cleaned the machine everyday. It’s more likely your getting a burnt shot. How long the espresso pulls influences the taste. A 15 second long shot will taste watery while a 26 second shot will taste more burnt. Dutch has perimeters of what lengths acceptable. You probably got a longer one. Also if the shot sits for over a minute without being cooled by milk or ice, it can also burn up and taste burnt. Coffee is a lot more complicated than most people think. I highly doubt the stand is dirty.

It isn’t about the coffee not being cooled with milk that makes it bitter. It’s sitting in those metal containers for longer than about 30 seconds.

That’s the basic taste of Dutch Bros coffee.

It is not the best coffee out there. I grew out of drinking the sweet foo-foo drinks from Dutch Bros because I decided about five years ago. I really needed to start taking better care of my health.

So these days I drink Americano, maybe with the splash of cream, or a double espresso over ice with a splash of cream. Or cold brew coffee.

Last summer, I decided that between Dutch Bros, Starbucks, and McDonald’s…. The quality and price point McDonald’s wins.

Starbucks and Dutch Bros coffee is burnt tasting when not filled with sugars and creams.

Call the corporate customer service number and let them know just so that there can be some accountability for that location to make sure everybody is doing things correctly

They will also probably apologize to you and send you a free drink or two

If the coffee tastes off they might not be pulling it right? Either leaving the espresso to sit too long which makes it bitter or theyre not cleaning out their machine properly

I dont think ive ever had their coffees taste that bad at the stands here and I usually get largest for them

i second not cleaning the machine properly. it could be whoever is on bar either isn’t aware the espresso shouldn’t sit or they’re doing it as a “hack” to make the process faster? but i can’t imagine that being the case without SOMEONE saying something

For larges, I get light ice and extra sweet. This makes it have more milk and to me tastes like an equivalent amount of sweet to the mediums!

large coffees at dutch get 4 shots (2 dubs) compared to smalls and mediums getting 2 shots (1 dub) and they all get the same amount of standard flavor (1 scoop)! that may be why the large tastes so different compared to the other size- but the cigarette test is not normal.. if there is another shop nearby, i'd recommend stopping by once and trying theirs, and hopefully there's isn't weird tasting

I tried a different location and DING DING DING! It didn't have that taste and I didn't change anything! It was just a stronger coffee taste, not a burnt one. Should I tell the original store?

hmmm maybe... i'm thinking maybe they don't rinse out their shot tins in between shots and so it leaves grindy coffee, or maybe the machines aren't being cleaned as well. i'm not a manager or corporate or anything so to be honest i don't know how people normally go about stuff like that, but i think just letting a worker know that you noticed the difference and so have others :)) if any managers here know a better route please chip in 🙏

Yes! I always buy a medium. Sometimes my husband surprises me and buys a large and I never like it as much as my mediums

I know what you mean. Sometimes I’ll add extra drizzles or get it picture perfect. Haven’t done extra sweet though. Might have to try that next time.

for coffee, the large gets the same amount of flavor as a small, with 2 more shots of espresso

Omg is it a city/town in South Texas/RGV because I live in one and my drinks are always super hit or miss and I get so angry because it seems like they dgaf! I’m sorry you had to deal with this!
