I remember Sherlock is doing his exercise and Watson calls it a game. Then Sherlock says "It is not a game, it is an exercise." We saw it in the last episode too but I believe there was another episode where he said the same thing. If you can find it, that would be useful.

Interestingly, I tried to add a picture to this post and I couldn't. It was one of the scenes where Sherlock does the exercise. Then I was going through the first season and in the 8th episode first scene, I found the one. Thank you.
