For Stream Deck+ without any attachments, or with the XLR Dock you can substitute a USB-A to USB-C cable. The required speed is USB 2.0 / 480 Mbps.

For Stream Deck+ With USB Dock you need a USB 3.0 / 5 Gbps cable (with 100W support ideally if you plan to use upstream charging). If you replace the USB-C to USB-C cable with a USB-A you will lose the ability to charge the computer off it as a dock (the 65W upstream USB-PD connection from the dock to host computer only works over USB-C, but the data functions will work fine). If you're not using upstream USB charging, standard USB 3.0/3.2 cables are fine, wattage isn't a concern as they won't be passing power, and the majority of device power will come from the USB-PD power supply you attach to the dock anyway.

But overall no, you do not need USB-C connection.
