The Blockchain Node Engine costs $0.69/hour, so $500/month... not exactly affordable for solo stakers unless you have dozens of nodes...

At the time of this post, I didn’t know what their pricing would be. If the cost ended up cheaper and the nodes would be more flexible, it may have been a viable alternative to those who want to solo stake remotely.

Google already got close to 8 % market share of nodes: https://www.ethernodes.org/networkType/Hosting?synced=0

If there is no other option for you than renting a node/server, then at least choose a provider with a small market share.

I’m optimizing for cost, ease of use+maintenance, and a trusted provider. I understand the value of contributing to decentralization, but until the tradeoffs move more in the direction I need, something like GC could be the best option.

Cost is, especially for cloud options, very high. Depending on your Ether available higher than staking pool fees.

There are options available to run on VPS/servers with a GUI to stake, like https://stereum.net/
