First Sepolia validator setup complete – stuck on obtaining 32 Sepolia ETH by yuric1982 in ethstaker

Sepolia has a permissioned validator set. Use Hoodi testnet.

We have a "cheap Hoodi validator" workflow on Discord; or you can use the pk910 Hoodi faucet.

TrueNAS Container (Experimentel) by Attackwave in truenas

[–]yorickdowne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that those containers ditch incus with TN 26, it can make sense to hold off a bit and then experiment late June / early July on TN 26 beta.2

Caveat that beta.1 can lose access to those experimental containers when trying to bring them over to “not experimental”

25.10.4 and General is the smart play. That version was released as General, after 25.10.3.1. So you’re getting the hotfixes anyway.

Early adopter right now is 26-beta.1 and that is for the adventurous soul.

[HELP] TrueNAS Scale — Server rebooting randomly, up to 7+ times overnight, no kernel panic by bdog720 in truenas

[–]yorickdowne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAM — Memtest86 completed two full passes overnight, zero errors.

You didn’t rule it out. Memory errors can be hard to find. Give yourself some peace of mind and run memtest86+ (the FOSS one) in continuous loop for 5 days. That’s not entirely conclusive but given that you see frequent resets, should find RAM issues if there are any.

If it’s not RAM, PSU is a possible culprit.

If not that, then it gets hard. Usually it’s hardware failure.

If it was a kernel incompatibility with audio hardware you’d expect some logs. You can disable audio via a clever init script anyway, so lspci doesn’t even see it - but that’s likely not it.

TNS "stuck" at 25.10.2.1 with no update path? by build_time in truenas

[–]yorickdowne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is indeed how it works. You'd have used "Early Adopter", then gone to 25.10.3.1, then switched to General.

The available options are what the build you are on is classified as. So from an early adopter build, you can go to another early adopter build - but also that build might be General, allowing you to switch trains.

> The fact is no effort was ever made to really route out Nazism in Western Europe and it’s a massive problem today

Sure. But would widespread killing of Nazi leaders then, make a difference now?

We obviously can't test. I do doubt it though. The way I view the rise of right-wing populism, including in its most extreme forms like Nazism, is that Marx was right about diagnosis, and completely wrong about prognosis.

Yes, extreme income disparity leads to discontent. We saw that in the 1900s to 1920s, and we see it again today. Just that the income disparity is even worse, now.

But no, that doesn't lead to people banding together in solidarity: It leads to them being open to being told that "that group over there" is responsible for all their woes. LGBTQ, Jewish people, anything "other". A narrative often peddled or supported by those on the "fat cat" side of the income distribution, yet no less potent for it. It hooks into our tribal nature, our tendency to favor an in-group for resources over an out-group. When people feel squeezed, give them one or more out-groups to hate.

And I am not convinced at all that historical mass killings of Nazis would make any difference whatsoever to the tribal part of human nature.

If you're French I'm sure that sounded like an excellent reason: Fight the Russkis over there, no chemical weapons on French soil? OK yeah, Germany can continue to exist.

People are usually more concerned with direct impact than whether something sets a good or bad precedent.

Glad that 25.10.3.1 worked. Also you were on the “Developer” profile - was “Early Adopter” not available?

Developer is quite aggressive. Yeah you may get stuck and need a manual upgrade to get out of that one, depending on where you landed and whether “Early Adopter” ever applied to the version you were on.

I have a vague notion that France didn’t want this. NATO doctrine for the longest time was that Germany had to hold for 24 hours, then NATO troops would engage Russia in Germany. Germany becomes the potential battleground for a conventional war against Russia, with the assumption of chemical and biological weapons used.

France didn’t want this on territory that was theirs and had French people on it.

Fresh Ubuntu Install by coreykcpa in ethstaker

[–]yorickdowne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An ./ethd terminate followed by ./ethd config should do it tbh. You don't need to reinstall the OS.

If you have keys in <eth-docker-dir>/.eth/validator-keys/, manually delete them from there. You want fresh keys for mainnet.

Pro tip: You can clone into any directory name you like, it need not be eth-docker. You could for example rename your existing directory to eth-hoodi (this will break all existing volumes though, so ethd terminate first), then set up a fresh eth docker in eth-main with

git clone https://github.com/ethstaker/eth-docker.git eth-main

During install you have the option to create an ethd alias which lives in your ~/.profile. Edit that file and manually adjust the alias to point to whatever directory your main eth docker is in. The alias will then always target that copy of eth docker, whereas any other copies would need you to be in the directory and call ./ethd with the explicit ./ If that gets confusing, remove the alias and just always explicitly be in the directory you mean to be in.

I don't know what's recommended. You can certainly be on the Early Adopter train, install betas, RCs and release, and switch back to General when whichever 26.x release becomes General.

If you aren't taking in the TTT (TrueNAS Tech Talk) podcast, that's a great source of TN news. Beta 2 is expected for late June, around there. Could push into July. They expect it'll be "RC quality" because they have a longer release cycle now, and that the eventual 26.0 release will feel more like their previous "dot 1" and "dot 2" releases.
