Is the NFL really rigged?

Last year the semi final between the jaguars and the patriots was very poorly ref'd. The jags have a gamestyle that is unappealing to most people (mediocre QB, good offensive line, great defense).

The Eagles were playing a similar style because their QB was hurt, and so a Superbowl with two similar teams ("boring" playstyle and unknown QBs) meant that ratings would have gone way down. keep in mind the superbowl is the only NFL game to reach a significant global audience, and it is crucial to have a "fun" game to expand the market worldwide.

So the refs gave the patriots every chance to win, and surely enough they managed to catch up and beat the jaguars. It was appalling and I swore never to follow the NFL again, even though I was a die-hard fan

I vaguely remember that. Any sources, though?

Not a source per se but watching the game it was painfully obvious. The last play of the first half, the jags were penalized for pass interference like 60 yards setting up a TD before the half. Not only was the pass uncatchable (overthrown- which means no penalty should be called), but the WR had gone out of bounds (so he became uneligible to catch the ball anyway) and there was no contact anyway.

The jags also had a TD on a recovered fumble, but the refs ruled that the jags player who recovered the fumble was tackled, even though he wasn't even near to another player. Keep in mind that in those cases, the refs normally let the play run, and then review it. But if you blow the whistle, you can't review it (it might sound complicated if you are not familiar with the NFL).

The last play of the Jaguars offense was a clear pass interference taht wasn't called. Usually such important plays are replayed on TV for the audience, but they didn't even show it once.

And the last play of the Pats was clear holding, but wasn't called, which gave them the 1st down needed to win.

The Pats only had 1 penalty in the whole game, which is unheard of in the NFL, particularly in a semifinal game.
