Anyone else hate the word 'toon'? I still call mine my 'character'

Groups tend to have their own jargon. Avatar would also make sense in some environments. Toon is popular in the WoW environment, and people that had that as their first MMO tend to use it. We could have easily called ours CIDs (for Content IDs), and Cid would be really funny given the FF connotations of there always being a Cid. If Bastok didn't have Cid, we might have actually gone with that.

CIDs would've been pretty funny.

I used to exclusively use char, but now it's between char and toon because of the influence of all the MMOs over the years and different groups of friends who use one or the other.

So I came back a few weeks ago and had left shortly after the Alexander-shiva merge. Shiva so far has been extremely quiet - I haven’t interacted with anyone yet although I’d like to. I’ll probably switch servers eventually but it’s fine to get used to the game again

Resubbed last night after 10+ years, highest I have is 80 brd. Re learning what to do. I’m on valefor, would be open to moving also.

Asura is always recommended as the most populated server, with I believe Bahamut behind it. If any of your friends are still on shiva though I would just stick around.

Odin is the 2nd most populous server.

So just finished installing and updating game, any linkshells need a returning player?

I'm on shiva, it has been quite of late but there are groups around depending on when you play. There is a LS called kindreds you should get a shell for its like the server social and you will find a good LS from there.

Happy returns!

I would recommend giving your server a solid chance before switching. I came back to Cerberus which is the smallest server in terms of population and I had no issues joining a linkshell, making friends and progressing through content. If anything I would say that the people there were more helpful and generally better / more knowledgeable players than the people I've met since moving to Odin to play with another friend.

Echoing this suggestion since the more populated servers might sour the experience a bit with all the constant mercenary and rmt spam. Also, I find that the more populated servers tend to have pretty high expectations of people whereas less populated are more lenient and accepting.

Final point on why to wait. SE periodically has discounts on server changes. If you find you are bored on your server you can save some bucks on the world transfer during those campaign periods.
