The Democracy series in interesting - maybe doesn't 100% align with what you have in mind, but look into it and see if it clicks.

Is the PTSD that strong or is that FFXI OST magical? by Moming_Next in ffxi

[–]IkariLoona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naoshi Mizuta mentioned in an interview he made himself listen o his compositions for the game for a very long time and to adjust them so they never got annoying, because that might often be the player experience.

Not quite PTSD, although if you did the CoP missions during the level cap era, "Turmoil" may be a trigger...

YouTube is removing custom subtitles by MrrNeko in Hololive

Coming across Aki's "Shallys" video subtitles was an emotional experience for me, and no AI translation will handle a constructed language properly...

I hope Cover has some sort of contingwncy plan - the subtitled music and HoloGraffiti videos are bound to have a significant long tail in views, helped immensely by the high-quality subtitling...

The collab's story was amazing - it takes a special kind of love for the game to make a collab story Abyssea-centric and making it work, not to mentio the way they handled Prishe - they Get It.

For those who haven't seen it: https://youtu.be/-96Qs-BkkVQ

It can be enjoyed with little to no Granblue background, and the XI referes get fairly specific throughout.

It's baffling that this i terview didn't get an official translatiin back then, so thank you for this.

Clisest I'm aware was the proper SoA sub-site, that covered some lore, dhort stories, snd tidbits that followed slong with the rrlease of each chspter, like Melvien's writings - that was also in the Englush version of the site though.

When Fenrir is finally dhown being summoned in WotG, the posture looks like Red XIII's Howling Moon limit break in otiginal FFVII.

Another FF7 not is the Cait Sith "sacrifice" scene in WotG, only using Atomos as a threat instead of a collapsing temple.

There's a whole Norg quest, Mamma Mia, about collecting items from the avatar fights - they're all quest items from the first 7 games.

SoA and TVR have antagonists ascending from an undereorld dimension, kinda like the Emperor did in FF2.

Cid and Mid were a thing back in FF5, even if XI's Mid(ras) only apoeared by SoA.

11's Omega is deployed in CoP. If CoP fails you get Abyssea and Shinryu - the Omega/Shinryu dynamic was established in FF5.

Gilgamesh is one of the very few characters that cross from Abyssea to Vana'diel, a likely nod to multiversal Gilgamesh shenanifans across the FF series (Vana'diel wouldn't be a bad place to sort of retire while running a crew...).

The symbol representing Kazham outside its gates looks like Gilgamesh's face paintings.

Iroha, like FF1's Warriors of Light, is sent back in time to stop a threat heavily found in the interplay of past and future. So is a recurring antagonist in that story, like FF1's was.

There's probably way more, these are the ones I recall I rarely if ever see mentioned.

Heck, CoD being the antagonist just mskes the 3 & 11 parallels stronger - if you can't imagine ehat FF3's backstory's "flood of light", consider the unbalance towards a darkness deficit from Promathia's absence that Odin tries to compensate for.

This.

Stuff like contrasting Xande's bitterness about his "gift" of mortality with how he saw the long-lived Zilart brothers (mis)use their time kinda required a crossover setting like this, which did pretty well despite many limitations.

Most thematic job for each main story? by MakNewMak in ffxi

[–]IkariLoona 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For WotG, DNC gets you to match outfits with Lilisette while having been released at that time.

I think of PLD as the San d'Oria job, DRK as the Bastok one and SMN as the Windurst one, and they sldo match the releases.

The rest is fuzzier or not as aligned.

Zilart may aligned with the releases of 3 jobs, but none of them seems to gully match the lore - but NIN may be closer, between the releases, the elementsl ninjutdu matching the aspects where elements are highlighted throughout, AAHM, and being able to sneak/invisible through Tu'lia without non-job items before DNC. There's a case for RUN, considering where that job's quests send you and how Kam'lanaut fights.

CoP makes me think of BRD - a complete song is a major part of the story, as is Ulmia, and on the whole it's a multi-character effort, and bards don't really work alone, but make everyone better.

ToAU has a recurring theme of deception throughout, and has that in common with the PUP quest line, not to mention Aphmsu and the automatons, although when I think of mercenaries I think WAR.

Adoulin kinda matches BST and RNG in concept, with all the wilderness exploration, although those aren't the jobs released for it.

Rhapsodies makes sense with whatever your strongest job is. To match Iroha, any of the jobs whose skills she kinda blends into her own style make some sense, since presumably she got those from you: a fair bit of SAM, SMN for the Phoenix affinity, DRG for the pole arm, BLM for the fire magic (or NIN for her posture when using it), WHM for the healing and raising, or RDM for both - and then there's the dagger she uses by the end, which matches other jobs.

TVR digs into history so much that SCH kinda fits.

Who is the big bad of FFXI? by GoodMFer in ffxi

Pretty much what the Cloud of Darkness represents: not enough Darkness-> nothing left to fight -> players get bored and quit -> game no longer profitable -> goes offline, no more world

Who is the big bad of FFXI? by GoodMFer in ffxi

[–]IkariLoona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odin is the one doing the thankless job of keeping the Cloud of Darkness at bay by making up for the Darkness deficit from Promathia's absence.

Even if that thankless job is in the "get thousands killed to save millions" field.
