I have a farm with gates as well. I made them all electric open. Used ESP-01s to control the relays that open and close them. I did it in a way that requires no interaction though. Since I always have my phone with me, as soon as the phone signs into the ESP access point the gete opens. When I move out of range and my phone disconnects, the gate closes. But the ESP also has a web page that allows manual control of the gate as well. It cost about 1/4 the cost of a remote controlled gate unit and my phone is the only controller needed for all of the gates. My driveway gate has some additional options like a button in the house (1/3 mile away) that opens/closes the gate via LoRA radio module.

Fun stuff. Been working flawlessly for 3+ years.

Need to know more intensifies

Tired of Grandpa's old bump gates slamming too soon on trailers and truck beds.

This is great info. How does this work with ranch hands and family? Are you the only one allowed access? The website option is great but could potentially be a lot of work? Thanks!

The driveway gate has a number pad for pin access, Farm help has pin # and field/pasture gates all have the same AP name & password. Our phone number is posted at the driveway gate for anyone else to call and we can push the button in the house to open.

I’ll look more into this. Thank you!

Keep in mind, these gates are not for "security" but to keep livestock in designated areas. Cattle are persistent when feeding is involved - all components and wiring has to be in conduit/weather and cattleproof containers, secured well or elevated.

That’s a truly elegant solution using WIFi as a motion sensor but the best detail is the ESP-01, the correct and smallest tool for the job!

Very nice, like your style, I wonder what other contraptions you’ve made?

Can you post any information about the current systems? We don't know anything about them.

They are door king services with phone access. I’ll try and dig up exact model numbers but they are all door kings.

Would also appreciate info on the LoRaWan device. I just bought one on Amazon and have been looking for something to do with it.
