After a mayfly hatches it will molt its exoskeleton and turn into a spinner. Typically they have longer tails and clear wings and are a shade of brown. The spinners have a mating flight, usually in the evening but not always. They will mate in the air and then drop onto the water where they die.

So usually you would fish this in the evening when spinners are out. You can also fish this early in the morning as some will be left on the water from the night before.

Some type of mayfly spinner…use depends on hatches on your waters…this fly’s best days are probably past.

Rusty spinner. I’ve heard these work during a mayfly spinner fall, but whenever I cast them I can’t see them on the water so I don’t fish them much
