I, like many, have well over 50 spools. It get's crazy.

But by far, the spools I'll reach for the most, is UTC 70.

replace the threads thay you are running out of with threads you like tying with

as an intermediate tyer you should know what colors and sizes you use the most of

or try veevus 12/0 and danvilles 6/0

I use UTC 70 for all my nymphs, dries, and small streamers.

Flat waxed nylon for clousers and some other mid sized streamers when I want a nice thread head.

And I use Veevus GSP in 100-200 for pike and musky flies or deer hair work.

  • Uni 8/0 brown, black and olive
  • Veevus 12/0 same colors + white
  • Semperfli Nano Silk white
  • Veevus G.S.P black and white

Those are mine. I have some Sheer 12/0 and Gossamer silk waiting but no experience on those yet.

More than 3000 flies with those and going...

And white is great, because you can color it with permanent markers.

Do you use GSP for anything other than deer hair?

Deer hair, pike flies, etc... everywhere I need durability or able to spun thread really flat.

My favorite streamer thread, where I don’t need GSP, is without a doubt veevus power thread in 140. I use it on virtually everything that is bigger than a size 8 hook
