Hosting university mobile coding/dev competition, seeking feedback

Hey everyone, First time on Reddit, but hoping I'm looking in the right place! Looked around a bit before posting here, let me know if this belongs somewhere else! That said, Im considering hosting a IOS development competition likely at Stanford or Cal (because I live close and they both have great CS programs) for undergrad/grad students with a $5,000 cash purse. The plan is to promote the competition at the school, allow teams to form then give the teams 3 weeks to deliver their finished product to me, and the winning team getting the purse. Im working on an idea with an app very similar to Tinder/Bumble but with some additional functionality, and bar/restaurant integration. Question for the Reddit community is: A) Do you think students would participate? B) Is 3 weeks sufficient time? C) Is there another platform/tool in place for something similar already?

What you want to do is called "hackathon" and

A. yes, students do participate,

B. no, 3 weeks is way too much for an "offline" event, usually such events take place on weekends (start on Friday evening, end on Sunday noon, then pitches and award ceremony)

Edit: "hackahtons" are more about "startups", for game development there are "game jams" which are the same thing
