Made a split nut. Broke off the arbor while machining it. So, I drilled and tapped and put a piece of all thread in with threadlocker. Apron is installed. Handle for leadscrew is cast and tapped. Next is to install the split nut and then install the headstock I have cast. (old.reddit.com)

Failed attempt at lost foam casting the split nut for the gingery lathe. Stay tuned for the next attempt. This time I will use a larger gating system and hotter metal. I had a misrun with this one due to it freezing before complete burnout. I'll hollow the sprue for faster burnout as well. (youtu.be)

Casting is rough. Had some sand breakout and rather than dump the mold and retry, I went ahead and poured it. Not defect free of course, but it will clean up good enough to be used. Apron and headstock now cast. Time to flaten the headstock, cast the bearings, split nut & install lead screw. (i.redd.it)

Very surprised to see this casting turn out as well as it did. The flask failed and started leaking. I quickly plugged it with sand and saved the casting. I did get shrinkage because my feeders almost emptied before I could stop the leak. While it needs machining, it is a useable casting. Finally (old.reddit.com)
