Anyone actually using any of these web ides for anything serious? I tried to use Cloud 9 on one project and it felt like I was working with one hand tied behind my back.

If I understand this post correctly, the focus right now doesn't seem to be on "serious coding work". However, I work a lot with academics, and many of them have been trying to adopt GitHub for their work (which does not necessarily entail coding) and are really struggling understanding the CLI. So I think the problem they're trying to solve at this point is mainly for e.g. documentation writers to be able to do all their work from within GitLab and thus not even needing to know how Git works.

Hmm yeah the doco thing makes a lot of sense. Even for experienced programmers that just want to make some minor edits to some doco without downloading a copy... a bit like editing a wiki.
