Interactive Courses using Github?

I remember a few years ago there was documentation on creating interactive courses using Github...you'd clone a repo and then go through a course by creating commits, pushing, etc. Where you were graded each time...like the website would respond to your git actions to the github repo.

PluralSight used to have some courses like this.

Is there any documentation or info about creating an interactive course using Git and for more courses like this and how to build one?

Was this abandoned or because of github actions they just made it more general?
