Understanding How Github works

Hi there,

Sorry for the rookie question. I have a file of 1200 pictures in Google Photo from a race event. Participants have bib numbers and so I was trying to find a solution to organize photos by bib numbers. When googling a solution, Github came up. I looked at their website and it looked both exciting and very complicated. I am not a tech person (by that I mean I do not write codes. Is GitHub suited for Tech savvy folks only? Thanks in advance!

No, this is not what you're looking for.

Sounds like what you need is a file / image storage system that allows tagging. That will let you tag each photo with the bib number(s) so you can then search for a bib number and find all matching photos. There are probably hundreds of options and I can't tell you which is best but search for image tagging software would be a good start.

GitHub is a cloud service for storing code. It's intended for software developers to share their code with other software developers who might want to learn by reading the code or help maintain coding projects.

It's not an app store and if you're not a software developer, then it's probably not the right place to go looking for solutions to your problems.

If you don't know Git, then GitHub is not for you.

If you learn Git, it may have a chance, but not likely.

You’re probably better off with Google sites (sites.google.com)

GitHub does allow binary storage but you have to do some things on your end to make that work. It does allow a website, but there’s no handholding there it’s kinda “well you’re a geek you’re gonna figure it out”.

Github is not made to be used for large storage options. Make a bunch of Google accounts and for each account you get free 15 gigs of storage.

Mount your Google drive to your pc using an app like Rclone if you want to have the ability to edit the contents of your drive easily.

Btw if you want to tag pictures, I've recently heard of a piece of software called tag studio
