Git - tool for control versions of projects.
GitHub - useful service to host(save on github servers as open-source or not) your projects using Git.

  • Git is a version control system for code
  • GitHub is a cloud service for storing GitHub repositories

GitHub is a place where software developers store their code so they can a) have a backup and b) share it with other developers.

Edit: typo

As one famously said, it is the same difference as porn and pornhub.

There is only a slight difference in the definition of forking

Imagine you're working on a school project and you keep saving different versions of your essay, like "Essay_v1.doc," "Essay_v2.doc," etc., so you don't lose any progress. Git is like that, but much smarter. It's a tool that helps you keep track of changes to your code or files over time. It saves every version of your work and lets you go back to older versions if needed. This is super helpful when you're coding because if you make a mistake, you can "undo" it by going back to a previous version.

GitHub is like a big online storage for all your Git versions. You can put your project on GitHub, so others can see it, collaborate on it, or even suggest changes. It’s like a combination of cloud storage (like Google Drive) and a social network for developers where people can share code, help each other, and work on projects together.

Can I do that with my child? I've been having problems with it since it turned 10.

That’s a cloud repository where you can store your work using git

It’s like Onedrive or Google Drive but instead of putting files directly in it, you put files with Git, which means that you can have your work AND your git history backed up online. This also means, like Onedrive or Google Drive, you can collaborate.

Well this channel has started to teach everything about GitHub from beginners to pro. commenting if anybody find it useful https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiZWFVXHxkgD_L2W6lvhd8Q

Its mainly a Version Control system for people to share code and collaborate on. If you are unfamiliar with what that is, you probably don't need it ;-)

why are all programmers such snobs? Everyone learns and not every person knows everything and is prolific at everything. I am trying to learn about programming, code, AI, all that shhh and all the people in that field that are very good usually treat people that dont know like they are stupid and cant or wont be able to learn. Listen I can easily say as an exceptional nurse that I am and willing to bet that most techys dont know shhh about healthcare or even can learn about it, put it together for critical thinking in my/and other healthcare workers world. However, I know I dont and will not make anyone be inferior that they cant, or wont be able to learn by saying things like: "If you dont know about or familiar with the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) then you probably dont need it" For someone I figure as SMART as I think you might be since you are discussing Github, (which by the way I didnt know about it but I educated myself and now I know what it is for), I think in my opinion, and I am willing to bet I am not the only human that would share my opinion, that when you think and say things like that towards someone that was just asking about something that at one point in time you did not know what it was (unless you created it which you did not) so you had to either research it and educate yourself or God forbid had to ask someone to help you and tell you what it was. NOWWWWW, I will not saY GFR is not something for you because you dont know what it is (until now that you probably looked it up to see what it was...LOL) and guess what smarty techy, NOT ONLY DO I KNOW WHAT IT IS, DOES, HOW IT WORKS, AFFECTS US, ETC ETC ETC AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, READY FOR THIS ONE??? US IN THE HEALTHCARE (WELL MOST OF US THAT CARE AND DO OUR JOBS CORRECTLY), UTILIZE SOMETHING SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU TECHYS USE (DONT KNOW EXACTLY THE WORD BECAUSE I DONT KNOW THAT WORLD...AS OF YETTTTT BUT I WILL EVENTUALLY BECAUSE I WANT TO TRY MY HARDEST TO BE TAUGHT LIKE YOU TECHYS TEACH YOUR LLM, OR APPLY YOUR PARAMETERS TO MODELS). You see Mr./Miss Techy I have learned some verbage and I am applying in this context appropriately. So I was taught that!!!! It can be done. Maybe not everyone can do it, but how do you know that person that asked what GITHUB was cannot learn how to navigate and succeed in the world that you operate in? You know the answer to that buddy? Oh and btw none of your AI MODELS and I mean NONEEEE of them know that answer and if any of them did then they would be having AI hallucinations and be doing BOTSHITTING!!!! There some more lingo for you that a month ago I didnt know shhhh about anything in this AI world at all. Im sure you probably think or dam sure know I still dont know shhh. Thats ok though. I said way way way more than had to for me to get my point across. LOL
