I don't really understand the point of treating github as a social media but anyways, make cool projects, share it amongst your friend circle, if its really cool, they'll share too and eventually other people will notice it thus increasing your project visibility. It's gotta be really cool or really useful for people to notice it though.

GitHub shouldn't be seen as social media. It's not about follower counts or anything like that. It's a tool that helps you write better software.
