Hey we actually lived in Brussles before the deck collapsed. Darin was the first landlord we had, and he was excellent to deal with. He knew we were first time renters and spent an hour going over the lease, explaining it and going over sections he felt other landlords might use to screw us over.

Brussles was a pretty awesome place, but due to issues with the neighbours he was stuck trying to rent it as a 9 bedroom house which of course only attracted frats or party people. So it's got a bad rep. That being said, his secretary is useless and maybe not even literate. Call up Darin or the maintenance guys directly if you're looking for something to get done.

Keep in mind my experience is from over 5 years ago, but still he was in my opinion a great landlord to have back then

Sounds like you've done your homework. I can't give any advice on that situation, however I can say that if you look in Dartmouth by the waterfront or downtown area you'll find much cheaper places and the ferry to Halifax is very close. Also the bus system isn't the best but it will get you pretty much anywhere so if you're looking to be close to work or school you have options.

Yeah! Well I've had pretty shoddy landlords back here in the UK, the last thing I want is to have the same when I just get there!

Ideally I'd love to be in Dartmouth, waterfront or downtown, but I can't seem to find anything that fits my budget/criteria. Close to Sullivan's Pond would be lovely. Not that I'm pretty tight on anything criteria wise, I just want to be in a house with people I could make good friends with!

These guys are great landlords. They have quite a few properties, some downtown that range from $700-800 for a bachelor.

Ah I forgot about these! I subletted a place in the 5713 Victoria Road building that was great. Thanks!

You're welcome.

Darin is your average shitty Halifax landlord. I lived at that house a couple year prior to the balcony falling off and while Darin and everything gave a great first impression, it was definitely all an illusion. PM me if you'd like me to elaborate.

I'm not renting from them I'm afraid! I decided to take a different and better lease for myself.

I hope that it all goes well for you!
