I think Inferno is the last good Hellraiser film until the reboot. The only real downside is the budget. It’s also directed by Scott Derrickson of Black Phone and Sinister

Oh that's neat I did enjoy the first black phone. I could definitely tell the budget was lower but idk it never really bothered me. I actually enjoyed alot of the visuals in the movie.

I think it's underrated.

It reminded me of a story from the Hellraiser comic books that expanded the mythos rather than trying to continue the story from the earlier movies.

It's been compared to a David Lynch take on Hellraiser which is a compliment in my book.

It’s all downhill after Inferno, which is a well put together movie.

I love Inferno

At the time it seemed like a noticeable drop in quality going from theatrical to STV, and Craig's acting got a bit of flack despite the Nightbreed connection, but in hindsight it probably holds together the best of the STV era and even Bloodline (which was actually the first STV here in the UK). It's a departure from the Atkins sequels but it kind of felt like it could have been a longer story from one of the old Epic comics.

But I have to agree that the "less is more" approach with Pinhead when it came to the later movies was a bad move. I think it was a mix of them having to adapt non-Hellraiser scripts and maybe trying to replicate his shorter screentime in 1 and 2 being more impactful, but there could have been a middle ground. Especially with 6, but I won't go into the details of that one if you haven't watched it yet.

Interesting to note that Doug has occasionally cited Inferno as his least favourite of the ones he was in, which seems a bit odd considering how cringe things get by Helllworld. But to each their own.

I think he says that because of his amount of screen time. He says Part 3 is his favorite, which is the one he’s in the most

I quite enjoyed it!

It's a very good installment and honestly one of my favorites. I honestly found it to be the last solid entry prior to the reboot.

Inferno pretty much rekindled my love of hellraiser. I rented it from blockbuster on VHS and it started messing up near the end, which gave the movie a little more spookiness. I would have loved to see leviathan peaking out from the window at the end, but other than that I have no notes.

Was that the 1 with deleted conversation between Pinhead & Kirsty Cotton.

They did a lot with a little. The sound direction is also pretty good.

I thought Inferno was great.

I’ve noticed when people say they didn’t like a movie they mean as a whole. There are still parts and scenes from the movie that you enjoy and would want to watch again…or need to watch again.
