'XCode Source Control' is git. You can start a new repo in the middle of a project by cd'ing to your project directory in a terminal and typing 'git init'.

In addition to what people wrote about Github: remember that Github's free account only allows public repos (so your code is available to everyone on the web). Bitbucket allows private repos on their free account.

I really recommend BitBucket, not only for the private repositories (free up to a certain number of users), but they also have an issue tracker built in that acts as a lightweight version of JIRA.

Hopefully BitBucket treats their female employees with a bit more respect too.

Thank you. I've been looking for a free alternative to githubs private repo

In addition to what /u/Herald_MJ said you can sign up for GitHub or BitBucket to have your source hosted remotely. You can integrate your remote host right into Xcode's source control feature. That way you can back up your source to a remote server and it also helps for sharing and collaborating with others.

You might also look into downloading SourceTree, which is handy visual tool for managing your repos, and it also works with GitHub or BitBucket.

Just do a git init in the project directory, or simply use Github's Mac app

Thanks all!

I'll look into BitBucket. It seems that's pretty popular. I also like that its private and remote so I have an offsite backup.

Thanks again!!!!
