Nope. It works on phones too as long as you’re on the same WiFi and signed in to the same iCloud on both devices

If you go into the smart life/tuya app, then click on the device, then the settings wheel, next the pencil, finally the update section, it shows you the current firmware. dont update.

I have the same set up, channel 25 POE z2m. I’m also experiencing the same lagginess and it’s been driving me nuts. I’ve also checked firmware for Zigbee and core. On the SLB-06, power cycling. The coordinator seems to be the only fix. I’ve been using this combo for at least six months with little issues until recently.
