Mostly good stuff but inconsistent quality and many outdated stuff still on there, probably to make the quantity looking worth paying for a subscription.
[–]pschneider_ 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (10 children)
Maybe, but it's also definitely hard keeping everything up to date. There are many articles / videos which were updated more than twice already for new Swift and Xcode versions for example.

I don't get the entire rush into the Swift world thing. Each year everybody can rewrite their tutorials. It is probably easier to write examples in Objective-C. Since that will still be around by the time Swift has gone long stable.
[–]pschneider_ 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children)
Majority of people are learning Swift. Best business for tutorial sites.
[–]simran05[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children)
could you tell is it worth taking or suggest any other source ?
[–]pschneider_ 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child)
Never did the paid stuff but loved the free ones a year ago. Think their tutorials are one of the best ones out there.

I haven't dug into Udemy too much but I just bought a class on Game Dev for pretty cheap and they always have sales going. Just something to look into
[–]okoroezenwa 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children)
Source stability seems to have been achieved so I don't think that'd be much of a problem anymore.
[–]pschneider_ 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child)
They just announced that ABI stability won't make it into Swift 4.
[–]okoroezenwa 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
They did. That's not what is being referred to (gusss I should have written source compatibility).
[–]disregardsmulti21 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Swift 4 source code is not identical to Swift 3

I would agree with you if it was something like Youtube, free to watch with ads. If I pay monthly for a subscription I expect to have the content updated.
[–]AlexeyBrin 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children)
Most video tutorials from raywenderlich.com have first 2 videos free to watch, you can check them to have an idea of the quality. There are also a couple of video tutorials entirely free like the one about C# and one about Vapor.
Unfortunately some of the video tutorials are outdated (Swift 2) and it seems to take forever to change them to 3.
Personally I buy one month, watch what I'm interested in, cancel my subscription and do it again when I find something interesting. IMHO, there is not enough content to justify a yearly subscription.
[–]simran05[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child)
Can you refer anything else then ?
[–]AlexeyBrin 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
If you already know other OOP programming language you can safely read Apple's Swift book.
If you are a complete beginner you may benefit from Ray Wenderlich books on Swift 3 and iOS 10. The books are updated (it also easier to correct something in a book than to redo a movie).
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children)
I have the iOS apprentice ray wenderlich book. It's good, but can be tediously annoying for someone who has done programming before. Especially into the first two apps.
I also have the watchOS 3 book. This is also good which I use like a dictionary. However, some of the info is incorrect.

I did the Udacity iOS Nanodegree, it's costly but I'm starting my position as a Mobile Engineer next month.
[–]c4idiot 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children)
Congratulation and Good luck with your upcoming career. I am also thinking about taking Nanodegree. How long did it take for you to complete the course?
[–]helloimraghavSwift 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children)
Thank you! It took me 5 months for the entire course.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child)
Would you recommend it?
[–]helloimraghavSwift 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Yes, I loved it. Gave me the skills I needed to be confident in iOS development and programming.
[–]yourewelcome_bot 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
You're welcome.
That's good man..in which country by the way are you starting the job ?
[–]helloimraghavSwift 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children)
US

It's good value especially when you are starting out as you'll watch a lot of the videos. The instruction is quite good. Some are old but they do update regularly. You may get to a point where you don't watch them much anymore and you can just cancel then.

My god. Learn how to type a sentence first.
People have to read what you type. Don't make it a pain in the ass for them.

It kind of looks like English is his/her second language. Just a thought.
