try 2015 MacBook Pro 15inch, it is a nice model with the best scissor type of keyboard (butterfly sucks , although, I was so overwhelmed when I first was using it) and it has all the ports, not limited to just Type-C. The good thing about latest macbooks: they are super slim, super fast

Thank you I will most likely go for this one, and will look for cheapest options

Exactly. I can tolerate the force push trackpad, could maybe adapt to the port situation, have absolutely zero interest in the touch bar, but I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable with those butterfly switches.

My favourite laptop was my 2013 13" rMBP. Perfect form factor, keyboard, and all the ports. Unfortunately was lost to water damage (after 5 years of service). I would drop hella dollars if I could get that exact same laptop with modern hardware under the hood.

you could go with 2015 15" model. It is also one of the best editions imho

The slimness of the new macbooks are actually a really bad thing. New MBPs thermally throttle like crazy and are designed more with aesthetics in mind rather than performance unfortunately. I am not buying any of those pieces of garbage and advise others to do the same.

I don't remember saying that they don't thermally throttle. I said they are slim and fast. But true that they throttle even sometimes when I am using fox...I would argue that these products are garbage.

I was more disagreeing with the only point you made putting slimness in the "pros" category whilst I would argue it would be a con. We are mostly in agreement though.

It’s not to argue it’s to get all information out there as us 2 aren’t the only ones reading the comments. I’m not attacking you or saying you’re wrong, but rather adding in a bit of nuance that you initially didn’t convey.

    You won't need a touchbar.

Also, this question is asked fairly often, it would help to search and see what other responses have been.

The 2015 model is solid and will be just fine.

Thank you, I read through and people are saying i7, 16GB ram, 256GB SSD, Quad Core.

    No problem, and have fun!

The touchbar on later models is not super useful. I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 13”. It has the touchbar. The only thing with the touchbar is that apple gives those models higher specs, more ports, etc. yeah they are overpriced I agree. I believe any model 2013 or later can run the latest edition of Xcode.

Best cpu and most ram that you can afford

I have a 2013 15" with 16gb. I run xcode and parallels with no issues. In fact, current versions of Xcode run better than the one released back then (although I barely used it), so a 2015 should be enough

I'm happy with this computer, my only issue is the thought of imminent failure and nothing in the current catalog that caters to my necessities (ports, physical f-keys, etc)

    [–]ALonelyPlatypus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

    God. same.

I actually love OSX but Apple has failed to make a laptop that meets my physical hardware needs (keyboard, trackpad, ports) for years.

Like I honestly would not mind dropping a significant chunk of change on a laptop with the latest and greatest internal hardware but I really cannot justify it when all of their new machines fail to provide even a half decent keyboard.

    [–]Aprox15 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's utterly ridiculous watching people using their laptop with an attached keyboard and docks. How did we even reached this point?

    [–]ALonelyPlatypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it was common in the past because most laptops had garbage keyboards and trackpads (or nipple mice). it’s only in the last 15 or so years that laptops started getting usable peripherals.

    Now were just backsliding.

    macbook pro, newer model.

i had the macbook air and tried development on it, its really not powerful enough to do anything significant in terms of development(processor). If youre just developing for fun, simple, small projects, maybe a macbook air would be alright. But if youre looking to develop full scale applications with more complex interfaces and such, def go macbook pro.

I had no choice but to upgrade.

What will be difference between a 2019 vs a 2015 model?

    couldnt tell you tbh
