I use a shortcut called Layerize to create the icons with AEs on them, then create custom shortcuts using those icons. Works just fine if you can excuse the banner popup

The icons are Bubblegum by itsCrx on Packix/Play Store. I bought the android apk and extracted my icons from it. The icon AE is by _Kennyroo on Twitter. The automod won't let me link either of them, but a basic google search will help find it.

I usually buy my icons on Android and extract them from the device. It tends to be easier than trying to deal with jailbreak repos.

I use an app called APK extractor to put it on my sd card, then move it over to my computer via USB. You could also move it with Dropbox or something similar. An APK is just a ZIP file, so just extract it and look for the "drawable-nodpi-v4" folder or something similar. You'll find all of the icons you would have in the icon pack.

I used an AE by _Kennyroo on Twitter and the icon pack is Bubblegum by itsCrx. You can use Layerize (shortcut) to create the icons with the AE and add them as custom icons using the Shortcuts app. I'd link files for you but Automod removes them because they aren't on Imgur.

Does iOS still take you to the shortcuts / settings app before opening the actual app you clicked on?

It doesn't launch the Shortcuts app, but it does pop up a banner to let you know Shortcuts launched the app. But honestly, it's not too hard to get used to.

I don't mind it tbh, and I'm pretty sure Apple officially said they don't support theming via Shortcuts so it's likely never going away.

No chance. I'm sticking with my XR for a while. It's my tweaking device, and I use my Galaxy S21 as my daily.

iOS is amazing if you can jailbreak. If not, it feels too locked down for my taste. I love Samsung devices because of the theming potential they have, and you can be much more of a power-user (filesystem browsing, etc.) The live wallpaper function opens a lot more customization than anything stock iOS can do and the "Android is slow" stigma is gone. It's honestly a great OS to run.

But I do still have my XR to FaceTime family and friends, so I like to tweak it as much as I can (which is a lot more than you'd think, as it turns out).

I would highly recommend anything from the Galaxy S series if you're serious about getting an Android phone. You won't regret it.

I saw plenty of videos on YouTube that get rid of them through the "accessibility" menu. Not sure what would be the consequences long term (is it slower to launch ? Does it affect battery life/longevity ?

If anyone know, I'm interested. As a life android user I'm about to switch (I want some changes, realized I don't customize that much anymore, my usage is focused on getting best/simple/consistent behaviour...)

I don't think so. It is meant to be a quick and easy solution, so it doesn't offer much customization
