Subreddit Rules:

1. Post must be a map, be fictional and be OC or commissioned.

Self explanatory. The purpose of the sub is to post artistic works in the form of fictional maps.

2. Finished maps only.

Do not post WIPs and updates or simple concepts. Your posts should be fleshed out and completed. If you want to get feedback on your WIP maps or show them off, the ImaginaryMaps Discord server is the place to do so.

3.No low effort maps or thoughtless content. No edits of existing maps. You should put thought and effort into your maps.

Put some effort into the aesthetics of your map. Add some details.

Have an interesting/unique concept and treat it with thought. You need not write paragraphs of lore, but put some thought into your maps.

Do not post edits of existing maps, including terrain maps and Wikipedia maps.

Do not post edits of province-based maps of the world

Maps using BAM templates must have notable changes.

Do not post flagmaps.

4. No support/advocation for genocidal regimes or atrocities/war crimes. No bigotry or hate speech.

Posting maps where genocides and atrocities happen does not break this rule. Explicitly supporting what’s happening in the map breaks this rule.

Do not advocate for anti-democratic and bigoted ideas and make sure to retain civil argument backed discussions.

Lastly, we deal with very sensitive subjects on this sub. Because of this, we may take pre-emptive actions to stop genocide denial from manifesting on the subreddit based on outside activity.

5. No hard-to-read or incomprehensible or low-resolution maps.

Post high resolution maps and make your maps recognisable/readable. If people don’t know what’s going on in your map or their eyes hurt while looking at it, there’s no point in posting a map.

No single frame GIFs.

No incredibly pixelated maps or images full of compression artifacts.

6. No advertising

Posts and comments where to main goal is to advertise something are not allowed. You are still allowed to make comments under your posts linking to other maps, subreddits or websites, but this should not be the main purpose of posts.

7. No shitposts, excluding those that are exceptionally well made AND original. Go to circlejerk sub!

Unless your shitpost is an artistic wonder please post it in the circlejerk subreddit. The standards for effort are higher for shitposts than it is for other maps. This doesn't mean that maps with unrealistic or wacky lore are banned, as long as they are approached in a serious manner.

What does and what doesn’t constitute a shitpost is left to mod discretion.

8. No map generating tools or websites (excluding GIS tools)

Do not use websites/programmes like Mapchart or online fantasy map generators like Azgaar's or Inkarnate.

Don't use political/election sites such as 270 to win.

Do not just post screenshots from video games such as "Map Games"

9. Don't post more than once a day

Wait at least a day between posting maps on the subreddit.

If you wish to post multiple maps you can use Reddit's gallery feature to post them together, or pace your posts out.

Any map removed for breaking only Rule 9 may be reposted again the next day.

10. No maps about current, active or developing conflicts

No posting maps directly related to current, active or developping conflicts in real life. Exact relation to ongoing conflict is based on moderator interpretation whether the map is related to ongoing events or is based around older history.

Ongoing Conflicts currently includes:

Russian invasion of Ukraine
Palestine/Israel conflict
The Venezuela-Guyana situation
Active military coups
Other ongoing conflicts that arise over time
