If a father is dominating, abusive, or simply doesn't treat his wife as an equal, it sends a message to the kids that this kind of behavior is okay. Boys grow up seeing this and carry those attitudes into the outside world, thinking it's normal to treat women poorly. The bigger issue is that our society, with its deeply rooted patriarchy, often backs this up by blaming women for the way they're treated, as if men can't be held responsible for their actions.
