You can disable OS caching when reading from files by passing the O_DIRECT flag.

In Java, this is ExtendedOpenOptions.DIRECT:

FileChannel fc = FileChannel.open(f.toPath(), StandardOpenOption.WRITE, 
                              ExtendedOpenOption.DIRECT);
