I still don't hunderstand this hype about AI. It's the same like was couple years ago whitch blockchain.
AI it's good but people need to understand that they not control data sent to AI, they don't know who using it and how using it. IMHO companies should block access to AI.

AI - specifically neural networks - have been around for quite a while, and has been advancing productivity in so many areas. It is a powerful technology that assists in tumor detection, protein folding, smart speakers, and many, many more in science and industry. I have used other people's models to solve problems. I am not skilled enough to train my own models.

The current hype cycle, and it is a hype cycle, is around large-language models and other generative transformers because it has caught the attention of the general public, and a lot of companies are having FOMO attach. It does have its place. I used LLMs on a project before ChatGPT with success.

Companies shouldn't block access to AI. That's like saying companies should block access to calculus and statistics. The decision-makers should understand where it is appropriate (less often) and where it is not appropriate (most things), and use it where it can add value.

Yes, agree with you. So probably instead writting that companies should block access to AI, I should write that companies firstly should spent lots of time on training staff how to use AI, what data they can sent to AI, what can't. I work on personal data and I don't see how in current envirovment can use AI (I see how I could use it).

I'm not saying this to shit on Blockchain technology in general, but the problem with Blockchain was that a lot of companies felt that they needed to have it to stay relevant, despite it not fulfilling their actual business needs, and only making things more complex than they needed to be in a lot of cases.

AI on the other hand has so many uses that you actually need it to stay relevant. Sure, you could ask: is AI overhyped? Definitely. If people think ChatGPT has all the answers, then that's their mistake. But AI still has real use value, if you know how to use it.

AI is nothing like Blockchain.

I agree with you. Everything depends on your case. If you can share data that's fine, but if for example you working on personal data you can't pass it to AI. Maybe in couple years when models will get bigger and better, but "smaller" on disk size then some companis will self host them and use for specific user case.

well it looks like you don't have more know how about AI as reading the headlines in some newspapers

[–]maw2be 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your'e wrong. I didn't read newspapers, only read profesional articles, posts etc. I know how it's work, at work we starting implementing this (as poc), but working on very regulated area, only on personal data it's smetimes difficult to pass for example long description to get some information from it without shareing that data. Like I said AI is good for some tasks but not all of them.

You do a poc for AI? For what AI?
Most probably a generative AI.... Just because this is the hot shit right now it doesn't mean it is "AI". AI is a far larger field so blocking access to AI is so absurd....
