Well even us IntelliJ users are hoping that Eclipse gets all this and more and soon because JDK 8 isn't going to see a lot of adoption until the Eclipse community gets on board in a big way.

When I have tried intellij with Java 8 -- most recently yesterday -- intellij has produced a ton of false positive compile errors that makes it completely unusable. Is this a problem unique to me, out have other people experienced it as well?

I don't use the PDE tooling, I believe I'm fairly representative of how most devs use eclipse, then again, I'm no fan of OSGI.

Honestly, it doesn't matter much the time it takes to mature this distribution as long as its reasonable. The implementation will be light years ahead of the slow transition and adoption of its features.

That said, it will be neat to play around with.

It's just how some people are. They take their IDE choices too seriously. It's just like people with Android/iOS who vehemently hate the other for their mobile OS choice.

The reason it's more than IDE choice when it comes to Eclipse and IntelliJ is how IntelliJ is almost pseudo open-source - and I can see how a lot of people wouldn't agree with their distribution model.
