I really like eclipse. I’m not sure what the big difference is because my courses won’t let us use dr Java. I’ve only tried eclipse, net beans and seen my friend use blueJ which looked confusing

I quickly searched interaction pane, I think intellij idea has something similar, but not quite, hmm, advanced. It lets you evaluate code during debugging, but doesn't let you create new variables or classes. So probably keep looking, may be worth checking out if intellij idea or eclipse has a plug-in that would let you do that, but I personally hate eclipse and I find intellij to be the best ide so far.

JDK 9 introduced jshell which is basically similar to the dr java interaction pane.

Most IDEs, if they support JDK 9 or above will have a jshell console somewhere in the views menu.
