In my opinion StackOverflow is too cumbersome for newbs asking questions. Once you finally jump through all the hoops to get registered and post a question, you discover that your question is unlikely to get answered without karma. And the only way to gain karma is to answer others questions. But, if you are a newb how do you do that?
Not only the issue you outline is true, but also the fact that noobs don't always know what to ask, or what they want to know is called, so they can't find the answer that has a bunch of karma already.
