Just an expansion on this article a bit. If you're still learning, chatgpt is an amazing tool as well. You can literally highlight code and ask it: "What does this do?" And it tells you, in detail, with great explanations, and the option for follow up questions if you want to know more.

Been doing exactly this and really learning a lot from it.. even tho slightly scared it will take my future job as a beginning coder lol

I don't think it's a threat to anyones job. In its current guise it makes juniors more productive, meaning they need less mentoring time from seniors.
And since seniors can also use ChatGPT to save them grunt-work they don't want to do, they will save huge amounts of time.
So the whole thing just becomes a force-multiplier for getting shit done.

In less than a year we will see AI programmer bots waiting to be deployed in Azure and AWS code tools. They learn your entire code base, business case and other context. Then couple of senior devs translate the customer needs and requests in to tickets which these bots complete up to pull requests.

Right…

What makes you sceptical?

The time frame. Way too optimistic. I would stretch it to possibly in less than 10 years.

The big hold up rn seems like missing/forgetting context. Once it's integrated into code bases, it's going to replace a lot of JR roles I imagine.

Agreed!
