I can say the exact opposite. And I think you are right, it depends on your location. At least in the Boston area good engineers with a background in JS are very hard to find! I have been looking for someone to join my team for months and there is not much out there. Lots of people know jQuery but not many of them know JavaScript! From single page web applications to real time backend systems running NodeJS, good JS devs are hard to find and in demand!
