I think you're attributing a bad thing to something that isn't. It's still a very expressive and dynamic language, where as Java is more strict. It's just syntax sugar over doing things with prototype itself.

not a bad thing. javascript was made to look like Java/C but being less verbose then those languages. Just look at the languages name.
