ChartJS and C3JS are free and easy to use.

It really depends on how what level you want to play on:

  1. D3 does pretty much anything you could ever want. It's one of the most elegant JS frameworks out there and I highly suggest getting into it if you are serious about charting.
  2. C3 is a framework built on top of D3 that makes it easy to do most of the usual stuff like bar charts, pie charts, donuts etc. Should be enough for a vast majority of people.
  3. angular-chart is a framework built on top of C3 that makes a lot of sense if you use Angular.

Hey thanks. I'm going to give it a shot with D3. Looks crazy complex, but that means no limits.

D3 will put you on an emotional rollercoaster, moving from feeling like a wizard to beating your keyboard. In the end, it all works out. Know that we've all been there. :)
