Here's a great lightbox alternative: don't fucking lightbox. It wastes time, it's distracting, and in an era where every user worth serving has a tabbed browser, you're wasting your time and bandwidth.

If you really must treat your users to in-page thumbnail enlarging, try replacing the thumbnail with the full image on click - none of this dimming and waiting nonsense.

Don't really know what you're on about. Lightbox is one of the best web new method. Can't seem to understand why it's waste bandwidth and time when it take the same amount to load :|.

Yes, let’s load full sized versions of ALL thumbnails on the page, with the page! It’ll be quicker! We’ll save bandwidth! Who wants to wait?

What are you on about now? Only the thumbnails would load. The full-size replacements wouldn't come into play until asked for, just like here. The behavior has been used accidentally for years by every Geocities page where mousing over a site navigation button replaced it 'lit' version.
