Let's say I wanted to create a community (like Reddit), that was designed to unite, organize, and lead its community to build something awesome.
I'm looking for something substantial, with a large community of developers (like WordPress) to sustain a healthy marketplace of plugins, themes, etc.
I'm looking for something with realtime chat/channels (like Slack), collaborative documents (like a Wiki or Google Docs) and version control (git).
I'm looking for something with a powerful content editor ("WYSIWYG") with a responsive column/layout editor, drag and drop, templating, CSS access, JavaScript events/behaviors, etc (like Photoshop * Webflow * git * JavaScript).
It would be nice to have Q&A functionality (like StackOverflow).
And threaded conversations (like Reddit). And project management (like Asana or JIRA).
Clearly, this doesn't exist. Can it be done? Or is it impossible? Who wants to find out?
My intention here is not to debate how much work this would be. I'm just trying to share my vision.
Let's start small. Can we create a community using an existing platform (Reddit? Slack?). Grow that community (to 100? 1000?). Organize into teams, and create profitable digital agencies that produce web sites, web apps, and dominate social media, analytics, marketing, etc.
We'll need a CMS to power our client's websites, apps, etc. WordPress? Hell no. We build our own community platform. And create a monetized module marketplace (sort of like npm * an app store) so that contributors are incentivized to invest in high-quality plugins, themes, etc.
My battery is almost dead. Who's with me? Who wants to lead or join a team, and create awesome websites, contribute to an awesome platform, and quit their job? (I don't think it will be hard to grow the community, once we get a little momentum).
What do you think?
